VoIP, IMS: Convedia Media Servers Selected to Provide IP Multimedia Processing for BEA WebLogic SIP Server

19.10.2005, MForum.ru

Convedia Corporation, the leading supplier of VoIP media servers, today announced it has partnered with BEA Systems, a world leader in application infrastructure software, to develop an IMS-compliant SIP application deployment architecture.

Convedia media servers are designed to provide powerful IP multimedia processing capabilities utilized and controlled by BEA WebLogic SIP Server?, the IMS SIP application server component of the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform. The integrated IMS-compliant service delivery architecture allows communication service providers and enterprise customers to develop and deploy a broad range of innovative IP audio, video, and multimedia services.

BEA WebLogic SIP Server is a carrier-grade, standards-based IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) application server platform for building, deploying, and managing next-generation services in a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) environment. Carriers can use BEA WebLogic SIP Server as the IMS application server to extend their infrastructures?and service offerings?to provide new converged voice and data services across diverse networks. BEA WebLogic SIP Server is a key component of the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, the first J2EE-based converged IT and telecom service creation platform, providing service lifecycle capabilities in a carrier-class network environment. The BEA WebLogic Communications Platform facilitates fixed mobile convergence (FMC) by allowing telecommunications companies to increase revenues by enhancing their ability to deliver a wide variety of IP audio and video services over wireless and wireline networks.

Convedia's IP media servers support scalable, carrier-class audio, video and multimedia processing for a broad range of enhanced services and applications. Acting as the Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP) in the IMS architecture, Convedia media servers respond to the IP media processing requests from the IMS SIP application server in the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform. The integrated IMS Service Delivery Architecture will support a broad range of IP-based audio and video services including Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC), Multimedia Conferencing, Voice-Video Messaging, Click-to-Call, and Multi-player Gaming (with voice).

"Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are clamoring for new, carrier-class technologies that can help speed them on the path towards IMS, - said Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems. - The BEA WebLogic SIP Server is designed to provide a standards-based IP service delivery environment for mission-critical IMS deployments and BEA requires equally robust IP media processing capabilities to complement this product. Convedia-s VoIP media server products coupled with the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform provide a powerful combination for CSPs looking to create a more flexible network architecture for service delivery and execution".

"The BEA WebLogic SIP Server is a logical and powerful extension of BEA-s proven leadership in IP-based web development and hosting platforms," - commented Grant Henderson, Convedia's Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy. ?Convedia-s commitment to multi-service audio and video processing capabilities, accessed through open standards-based control protocols, delivers the media processing flexibility essential for the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform. Together, our companies offer service providers and enterprise customers an IMS-compliant service delivery platform with the scalability, reliability, and versatility to efficiently develop and deploy many IP-based communication services."
